Simon Kinberg Sci-Fi Series Set for Apple

Joseph Baxter Jan 17, 2019

X-Men: Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg has landed a series commitment with Apple for an untitled sci-fi series.

Simon Kinberg has been a productive creative source for Fox, having written four entries in its X-Men film franchise, the last of which, Dark Phoenix, serves as his directorial debut – currently in post-production. However, it appears that Kinberg just made a deal to join an already-impressive lineup of creative talent for the streaming content platform of tech giant Apple.

Apple has given Kinberg a 10-episode straight-to-series commitment for an untitled sci-fi series, according to Deadline. While details on the project – set to be co-written by Kinberg and David Weil – are scarce, it is being described as “large, large budget,” as well as “ambitious” and “character driven.” With casting reportedly underway as we speak, its globally-shooting production is being targeted for the summer. Kinberg and Weil will serve as executive

Apple Nears Commitment For Sci-Fi Series From Simon Kinberg And David Weil

  • Deadline
Updated with more details: Apple is near a deal for an untitled science fiction series created and co-written by Simon Kinberg and David Weil. Kinberg has been the creative backbone of the X-Men franchise at Fox, and Amazon is casting up the Weil-created series The Hunt, with Alfonso Gomez-Rejon directing, and Al Pacino and Logan Lerman starring in a fact-based drama about Nazi hunters.

The Kinberg/Weil series hails from Platform One, and if it makes would mark the first series green light for the company run by CEO Katie O’Connell Marsh. Genre Films’ President of TV Audrey Chon would be an executive producer on the show, along with Kinberg and Weil. Specifics are under wraps for right now, but sources said this is a large-budget, ambitious, character-driven genre show that will go into production this summer.

Kinberg completed his feature directorial debut on the X-Men: First Class installment

TV Ratings Report: Roswell, New Mexico Premieres Well

Roswell, New Mexico debuted on The CW Tuesday night, and it scored respectable ratings.

The alien drama got underway with a 0.4 rating in the demo and 1.5 million total viewers.

It improved in the demo on time-slot predecessor, Black Lightning's average, so that's a big positive.

The true test will be whether the series can hold steady in the coming weeks or if will experience a big post-premiere drop.

Earlier on The CW's night, The Flash returned and matched its season low in the demo with a 0.6 (1.7 million viewers) rating.

Over on ABC, The Conners (6.6 million/1.3 rating), The Kids Are Alright (4.3 million/0.8 rating), Blackish (3.3 million/0.8 rating), Splitting Up Together (2.6 million/0.7 rating), and The Rookie (3.8 million/0.7 rating) were all in line with recent ratings.

NCIS (12.1 million/1.3 rating) built a tenth at CBS, while FBI (9.3 million/1.0 rating) and NCIS: New Orleans (7.3 million/0.8 rating) were all stable.

The Gifted Season 2 Episode 12 Review: hoMe

A Blink episode and some twisty plot developments put The Gifted back on track.

Books

This The Gifted review contains spoilers.

The Gifted Season 2 Episode 12

I'm old. Not an ancient, wizened, hobbling crusty old hermit (even though I do live far from civilization and occasionally step gingerly after I run or sit for a long time). But I'm old enough where I've run out of patience for plot contrivance, shows that have sudden character swerves to put people in a spot where the show can advance their overarching story. So a good chunk of tonight's episode of The Gifted had me very frustrated, because I know that they can do better. And I know from the other half of tonight's episode.

Another development that comes with my old age, and this is just me and not "being old," is that I really just want to watch characters communicate effectively and be well adjusted.

Marvel Planning Several X-Men TV Shows For Disney Plus

Marvel Studios seems to be embracing the opportunity to create new material for Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney Plus with both hands. So far, we’ve heard a lot about a Loki TV series, Vision and the Scarlet Witch, a spy thriller show for Winter Soldier and Falcon and many, many more. Essentially, it seems the studio’s looking for gaps in the McU that can be filled, but it seems that execs are casting the net even further than that and are also considering developing multiple TV series based on the X-Men universe.

As every fan knows by now, the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four will soon return to Marvel Studios once Disney completes its merger with Fox, and sources close to We Got This Covered tell us that Marvel’s already tossing around potential ideas for X-Men-related series to go up on Disney Plus.

  • Deadline
Tuesday is turning into in-season reality night on Fox for the first time in almost a decade.

The network has slotted Tuesday, February 26 for the Season 7 premiere of MasterChef Junior. The culinary competition series featuring talented kid chefs will air at 8 Pm, replacing Lethal Weapon, whose 16-episode third season will have its finale the previous week.

MasterChef Junior will be followed by previously announced new obstacle course reality competition Mental Samurai at 9 Pm, also set to premiere Feb. 26. It will replace drama The Gifted.

Tuesday has been a weak spot on Fox’s schedule, and the network is looking to shake things up with an all-reality lineup, which involves some counter-programming, going with an unscripted show against NBC”s drama juggernaut This Is Us at 9 Pm.

The last time Fox had an all-reality Tuesday lineup during the regular broadcast season was in fall 2009 when it aired an in-season installment of

Is The Gifted Doing TV's Best Kissing? Were Criminal Minds Kids Creepy? Did Brooklyn 99 Shock? And More TV Qs

Is The Gifted Doing TV's Best Kissing? Were Criminal Minds Kids Creepy? Did Brooklyn 99 Shock? And More TV Qs
We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including The Gifted, Good Trouble, Criminal Minds and Brooklyn Nine-Nine!

1 | In Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, how is there no option to choose a pronunciation of “Stefan” that the characters can agree to all use?

2 | For what was dubbed “an Expendables episode,” was last week’s Hawaii Five-0 a bit light on firepower/pyrotechnics? As if they (ahem) expended it all in the fall finale face-off, in which Joe died?

3 | Is there any better feeling than

Why Polaris’ Story Is Still the Most Important Part of ‘The Gifted’

Season 2 of The Gifted established a complicated new narrative, in which warring factions of mutants all pursue a different future for their species. While the Mutant Underground still believes in the X-Men’s original vision of coexistence and harmony, the Inner Circle agitates for their own mutant safe haven, and the Morlocks advocate for complete separation from human society in the form of a hidden life in the sewers. As a result, the story is thornier than ever before, and it frequently feels as though there’s no resolution that can possibly make everyone happy. (Or even let …

Donald Trump Gets Network Time On Tuesday To Talk Border Wall “National Security Crisis”

  • Deadline
Updated: CBS agreed to carry President Donald Trump’s address Tuesday night at 9 Pm; ABC, NBC and Fox broadcast networks followed suit.

President Donald Trump on Monday asked the broadcast networks to clear 9 Pm Et Tuesday, during which, based on his morning tweet, it is presumed he will make good on his threat to declare a state of national emergency to build his southern border wall.

Sean Hannity, aka Trump string puller, also “guessed” on his Monday radio program “he’s going to declare a national emergency.”

Trump said he had proudly shut down the government to extract border wall financing from Congress; the government shutdown has hit Week 3 with no end in sight. Declaring a national emergency allows Trump to thwart Congress and take money from the Department of Defense to finance the concrete wall he promised would be paid for by Mexico, which has morphed into a steel barrier financed by tax dollars.
